Liz Flight ~ RN, IBCLC

Liz Flight has helped mothers and babies with breastfeeding for over 30 years. Mom to three terrific breastfed (grown) children and a breastfed grandson, Liz is a Navy wife and is focused on the needs of military families. She has developed lactation programs for several Navy hospitals over the last 10 years and has provided guidance for policy makers concerning support of the military mother returning to active duty.
Liz continues to provide professional education for military residency programs and is an often sought guest speaker. She has been board certified as an IBCLC since 1993. A former charter member of the Executive Board of the USLCA (United States Lactation Consultant Association), she is active in her regional chapter, TALCA (Tidewater Area Lactation Consultant Association) and is currently chartering a new USLCA chapter for the military`- MiLCA (Military Lactation Consultant Association)
Liz tells the story of coming to the lactation profession “backwards”. While growing up she always wanted to be a midwife, however, as a young mother in the early 1980’s when the breastfeeding rate was about 10%, she was the only nurse working at her hospital who had ever breastfed. She was therefore assigned to work in the nursery and help the new moms. Liz found it rewarding to help these young families and felt even more passionate about spreading information and education to others who could make a difference. Liz continues to help moms and to train the next generation of nurses and doctors. She hopes that with today's research, modern technology and the visibility of breastfeeding in public, mothers of this generation will embrace motherhood and breastfeeding. |

She is the author of "Breastfeeding in Combat Boots: A Survival Guide to Successful Breastfeeding While Serving in the Military” and the founder of the website Breastfeeding in Combat Boots, where military moms worldwide can go for more information and support on breastfeeding while serving their country.
